Deficit of the 'White Salmon' Fish Species Expected
The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports that a deficit of the 'White Salmon' fish species is expected in Armenia in the near future. Fish vendors have relayed this information to 'Zhoghovurd'. According to them, fish farmers in our republic have begun to gradually reduce the production of the 'White Salmon' species.
This means that in the upcoming period, it will be difficult to find 'White Salmon' in Armenian supermarkets and stores. It will be replaced by 'Red Salmon,' which is more expensive, with a price of 2,700 drams per kilogram, while 'White Salmon' costs between 2,200 and 2,300 drams per kilogram.
The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' spoke with Armen Buniatyan, the president of the fish farmers' union, regarding the reasons behind this issue. In response to our inquiry, the fish farmer stated: 'Currently, the demand for the 'Red Salmon' fish species is higher in the market than for the 'White' one. This is the reason behind the change. For instance, in the Russian Federation, everyone consumes 'Red Salmon,' and 'White' is no longer sold. Now, a significant portion of our population has already switched to 'Red Salmon.'
