Nearly 22,000 Artsakh Residents Have Not Returned to Artsakh, Lack Housing: Artsakh Human Rights Defender
The housing problem remains a very serious issue in Artsakh, stated the Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, Gegham Stepanyan, during a session of the National Assembly.
“This is probably the most serious issue, as people simply cannot find available homes to live in, and this is also related to the fact that nearly 22,000 residents of Artsakh have not returned to Artsakh, despite expressing a desire to return and live here, but they lack the necessary conditions,” he said.
According to Stepanyan, people are living in basements where the most basic living conditions are not provided and they are deprived of sanitary conditions.
“The rental payments provided by the state do not correspond to market prices. I have submitted a proposal to the government of Artsakh and I know that steps are being taken,” said the Artsakh Human Rights Defender.
Stepanyan noted that many issues are also faced by Artsakh residents in Armenia. “The necessary financial resources are insufficient for normal living conditions,” he added.
