Coronavirus Continues to Evolve Instead of Retreating: 'Mu' Variant Detected in Turkey
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to see the emergence of new variants instead of declining. Recently, a new variant of the virus has been identified, which experts have named after the Greek letter "Mu." It was first discovered in Colombia in January.
According to Fahrettin Koca, Turkey’s Minister of Health, the "Mu" variant has also been identified in Turkey in two individuals. Relevant studies are currently underway.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the United States, stated that certain antibodies may be ineffective against this variant. Previously, the 6th variant of COVID, known as "C.1.2," had also spread in South Africa.
Health professionals have indicated that the "Mu" variant spreads as rapidly as the Delta and Beta variants.
