Not Only Is the Price of Sugar High, but There Are Also Stores with No Sugar: 'Joxovurd'

'Joxovurd' newspaper reports: 'The sugar market in Armenia is once again in a chaotic state. Not only is the price of sugar high, but there are also stores with no sugar available. For several days now, 'Joxovurd' has been receiving phone calls from citizens reporting that they cannot purchase sugar in bags from shops and supermarkets. In fact, in some rural shops, residents are unable to buy even one kilogram of sugar because it is out of stock.

Yesterday, 'Joxovurd' inquired via phone with several supermarkets in Yerevan about the possibility of purchasing sugar in bags, and we received negative responses. Furthermore, supermarket representatives informed us that in extreme cases, they could sell only a 20 kg bag of sugar, citing quantity issues. Currently, one kilogram of sugar is sold at prices ranging from 420 to 450 AMD. It should be noted that the sole responsible entities for the situation in the sugar market are the Ministry of Economy of Armenia and the Competition Protection Commission. It seems the Ministry of Economy is indifferent to whether sugar is available in trade points across the republic, while the Competition Protection Commission shows no concern regarding the rising daily price of sugar. As a result of all this, ordinary citizens are suffering.'
