Shooting and Stabbing Incident in Kotayk Region: One Injured, Suspect is Soldier in Armenian Ministry of Defense Unit

On September 4, a shooting and stabbing incident occurred in the Kotayk region at approximately 20:30. The Kotayk police received a report from the Abovyan Medical Center indicating that a citizen had been admitted with stab wounds.

According to Shamshyan.com, police and investigators determined that the victim was 21-year-old Grigor S. from the Kotayk region. He had been transferred to the hospital from the village of Kotayk.

While doctors were providing necessary medical assistance to the injured party, police officers from the Kotayk region, led by Police Chief A. Zohkrabyan and head of the Kotayk department S. Rustamyan, found out through operational data that on the same day, during an argument over domestic issues near one of the houses on 7th Street in Kotayk village, Grigor S. was stabbed by 25-year-old Ara G. from the Kotayk region, who subsequently fired shots with a firearm he had on him.

Police and investigators later discovered three cartridges of 5.45 mm caliber bullets at the crime scene. Following the actions of law enforcement and explanatory work conducted, Ara G. voluntarily presented himself to the Kotayk police on September 5. He was then taken to the Abovyan Investigative Department.

According to G. Shamshyan, Ara G., who serves in the Ministry of Defense's N military unit, also presented the Kalashnikov assault rifle, which was the weapon used in the crime. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident.
