Reasons Behind Kotayk Stabbing and Gunshots Revealed

The Investigation Committee of Armenia has reported new details regarding the stabbing incident that occurred in the Kotayk region.

The committee states that as a result of the undertaken measures, it has been confirmed that on September 3, at approximately 19:30, a 25-year-old resident of Mayakovski village visited the home of a Kotayk village resident, who is engaged in car engine repairs. An argument broke out over the inadequate repairs of the young man’s vehicle with the car repairman and his son. Following the intervention of neighbors, the young man left, promising to return.

“About 30 minutes later, he returned to the mentioned house with his father, mother, and several other individuals, where they engaged in a dispute with the homeowner and his son, as well as the adjacent individuals. During the altercation, the father of the 25-year-old struck various parts of a family member of the Kotayk village resident’s body with a wooden stick, while the 25-year-old, disregarding the presence of those gathered at the scene, fired shots from a 5.45 mm caliber illegal pistol, intentionally inflicting stab wounds on a 20-year-old’s vital organ—the left rear part of the chest—causing severe damage to his health,” the statement reads.

Following the incident, a criminal case was initiated at the Investigation Committee of Armenia under Article 34-104, Part 2, Clause 6 (Attempted Murder), Article 235, Part 1 (Illegal Acquisition, Sale, Storage, Transportation, or Carrying of Weapons, Military Equipment, Explosives, or Explosive Devices), and Article 258, Part 4 (Hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Various investigative and procedural actions have been carried out, including the questioning of several individuals and the appointment of a forensic examination.

On the same day, the 25-year-old voluntarily appeared at the police station, submitted the “AK” type pistol—along with 4 cartridges—and provided a confession. He has since been arrested and interrogated. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.

Earlier reports indicated that the 25-year-old had stabbed another 21-year-old young man before firing shots from a pistol.
