Updated: Several Injured Rescued from Bus by Rescuers with Citizens' Help
Today, on September 2, a serious traffic accident occurred in the Ararat region. Around 08:30, 62-year-old Sergeik Grigoryan, a resident of Artashat, lost control of the FAV brand bus he was driving on the Bjuravan-Mkhchyan inter-village road, veering off the roadway and crashing into a tree. According to photographer Gagik Shamshyan, 32 individuals with varying degrees of bodily injuries were transported to different hospitals in Artashat and Yerevan.
Emergency responders from the Ararat Regional Emergency Situations Ministry quickly arrived at the scene with a firefighting-rescue team from Artashat. Several of the injured were removed from the bus by rescuers with the assistance of citizens.
Information about the accident was relayed to the police station in Artashat by Yervand Aleksanyan, the responsible operator at the Highway Police's 1-77 operational management center. A team from the police station promptly arrived, led by the day's responsible officer. Investigative work at the site is being overseen by Major Investigator Gevorg Poghosyan from the 1st platoon of the 2nd division of the Highway Police, who is preparing materials regarding the incident.
The police are working to determine the identities of the injured. According to G. Shamshyan, the bus serves the Getazat-Yerevan route. Also present at the scene were Arsen Mardoyan, Commander of the 2nd division of the Highway Police, along with his deputies Aram Adibekyan, Hayk Davtyan, and Senior Inspector Edgar Satyan from the same division.
In a conversation with the photographer, local residents remarked: “Shortly after the accident, the rescuers and several medical teams arrived very quickly and provided assistance to the wounded before transporting them to hospitals. Some citizens took several injured individuals to hospitals in their own vehicles, but it was commendable that the rescuers and doctors reached the scene within seconds. The Highway Police also deserve praise for escorting several injured to ensure they arrived quickly.”
