US Embassy in Kabul Announces Inability to Provide Safe Transport to Airport

The US Embassy in Afghanistan has announced that it cannot provide safe transport for its citizens to Kabul Airport. This was stated in a message published on the diplomatic mission's website on August 20, as reported by Armenpress.

"Flights provided by the US government depart from Kabul and will continue until the evacuation operation is completed," the embassy stated. "US citizens... should consider traveling to Hamid Karzai International Airport if it is safe. The US government cannot ensure safe travel to the airport." According to the latest official reports, US authorities have evacuated approximately 9,000 people from Afghanistan since August 14.

President Joe Biden expressed hope that US military personnel would be able to complete the evacuation of their citizens by August 31. Following the announcement of the end of military operations in Afghanistan and the start of troop withdrawal, the Taliban launched attacks on government forces and entered Kabul without resistance on August 15. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani announced that he was leaving the country to prevent bloodshed. Western nations are evacuating their citizens and embassy staff, TASS reported.
