Significant Finds Discovered During Excavations in Van

Significant findings have been uncovered during excavations in the Gürpınar district of Van, including graves dating back to the 1st millennium BC, indicating that the area was inhabited during the Iron Age.

This was reported by Akunq.net, citing the Turkish newspaper Sabah. According to the source, these graves reflect the burial customs of the Urartian kingdom.

Twenty individuals are participating in the excavations, which are being led by Errol Uslu, the director of the Van Museum, with Dr. Hanifi Bibir serving as an advisor to the team. In an interview with a correspondent from the Turkish periodical, Bibir mentioned that evidence has been found indicating that the region is around 5000 years old.

The most remarkable find from the excavations is a hearth belonging to the Early Bronze Age. Experts believe that the hearth was used for cooking purposes.

The excavations in Van will continue next year.
