Illegal Import of Pharmaceuticals Prevented: State Revenue Committee
The investigation conducted by the Investigative Department of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) revealed that a group of individuals engaged in illegal entrepreneurial activities without special permission (license), causing significant damage to the state, according to the SRC.
During the pre-trial investigation, joint measures taken by the investigative department of the SRC and the National Security Service clarified that V. B., the director of two pharmacies in Yerevan, had been involved in activities requiring licensing in February 2021 without the necessary permits, importing approximately 300 types of pharmaceuticals from Georgia and Russia across the Armenian customs border for profit.
Furthermore, V. B. involved relatives in this illegal operation with promises of financial payment. Two of them transported the mentioned pharmaceuticals from Georgia and Russia to Armenia using a freight truck, transferring them to V. B.'s management, while the other two were engaged in the illegal storage and sale of drugs imported into Armenia.
Through close cooperation between SRC investigators and NSS officials, the scheduled timing for the next batch of pharmaceuticals planned for import was clarified. Daily joint monitoring efforts successfully prevented the illegal import of pharmaceuticals into Armenia and their subsequent circulation, as well as other household items that were not declared after importation.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
