What Happened After the Pashinyan-Sarukyan Meeting
According to the "Zhoghovurd" daily, the National Security Service has "closed" Gagik Sarukyan's criminal case. Moreover, there are jokes circulating within the law enforcement system that no actions have been taken in the case, allowing dust to settle on the files. Why is the NSS not taking any steps regarding the criminal case against the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, especially considering the NSS's highly active operations in 2020, including searches, multiple summonses, and his detention during the days of war?
Perhaps there were instructions from the authorities back then, and now they have decided to "forgive." It is recalled that on September 25, 2020, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, granted the NSS investigator's request to detain Gagik Sarukyan, the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party. Sarukyan was charged under part 2 of Article 154.2 of the RA Criminal Code for giving bribes. He did not accept the charges against him.
On June 16, the National Assembly approved, through closed voting, the request by the Prosecutor General of Armenia to deprive MP Gagik Sarukyan of immunity and freedom.
It should be noted that ArmLur.am had reported that on August 16, Gagik Sarukyan visited the Government of Armenia and met with Nikol Pashinyan. They reportedly had a conversation lasting about 1.5 hours.
