Prominent Geologist Sergey Movsesyan Passes Away
The Committee of Urban Development of Armenia and the Union of Builders of Armenia are saddened to announce that on August 16, Sergey Movsesyan, an esteemed geologist and a worthy son of our country, passed away in Moscow.
Sergey Movsesyan was born in 1934 in Leninakan (now Gyumri). After graduating from high school in 1951, he moved to Yerevan and enrolled in the Faculty of Geology at Yerevan State University. Immediately after graduating, he began working at the 'Hayardnakhtsur' Institute, initially as a mining geologist and later, until 1989, as the head of a geological expedition.
In 1974, Sergey Movsesyan was sent to the Republic of Cuba for work. He served as a hydrogeologist in the cities of Santa Clara (1974-1976) and Camagüey (1980-1982). For his effective work and significant contributions, the Cuban government awarded Sergey Movsesyan the '20th Anniversary Medal of the Capture of Moncada Barracks' in 1975.
Between 1985 and 1995, Mr. Movsesyan worked as the head of the Geological Mapping Department at the 'IZHnaproj' Institute. From 1995 to 2002, he was involved in the Scientific and Technical Administration of the Ministry of Urban Development, and from 2002 to 2012, he held responsible positions at the 'PETEKSPERTIZA' Geological Examination Center.
In 2009, for his contributions to urban development and his extensive work in the field, Sergey Movsesyan was awarded a gold medal for 'Significant Contribution to Urban Development.'
