New Program to Support Birth Rate and Large Families to Be Introduced: Davit Khachaturyan

The government plans to introduce a new program to promote birth rates and large families starting from January 1, 2022. This was announced by Davit Khachaturyan, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, on his Facebook page.

“The main condition to become a beneficiary of the program will be the birth of a third child and subsequent children in the family after January 1, 2022. For each third child and subsequent children born, the government will provide 50,000 drams monthly until the child reaches the age of six. Specifically, if a family with at least two children gives birth to additional children after 2022, the beneficiary family will receive 50,000 drams for each new born child monthly,” Khachaturyan noted.

He also highlighted that the government's programs aimed at boosting birth rates have a positive impact on the birth rate indicator. For the first time since 2014, the consistently declining birth rate saw an increase in 2020, and in the first half of 2021, the absolute number of births increased by 1,413, or approximately 9%, compared to the same period last year.

Maintaining the recent growth rates could have a significant impact on Armenia's demographic landscape,” Khachaturyan stated.
