Government Transfers 571 Million Dram to NSS: Reasons for Allocation Revealed

The government has transferred 570,978,557 drams to the National Security Service (NSS) in accordance with a decision made during yesterday's executive meeting. This decision was part of a package of non-reported issues.

The reasoning behind the decision states that as a result of the 44-day military operations in 2020, the corresponding units of the NSS's border troops have been deployed along Armenia's southern borders, which has led to several critical issues.

"To properly carry out the protection of the mentioned section of the state border and to ensure the normal functioning of the service, it has become necessary to provide newly recruited servicemen with food, accommodation, and other basic conditions. Additionally, due to the current situation, it has become necessary to undertake certain works in the relevant section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line, which will allow for strengthening the border control system. It has also been considered that certain unforeseen financial expenses have arisen, which could not be anticipated at the time of drafting the NSS's 2021 state budget proposal," the justification reads.

The project proposes that the unused funds planned in the NSS's 2021 state budget amounting to 209,229,135.95 drams be redirected to the government's reserve fund. Subsequently, from the government's reserve fund, the aforementioned economized amount as well as an additional 361,749,422.05 drams be allocated to the NSS for the procurement of goods and services necessary for its normal activities.

The NSS anticipates that with the allocation of 570,978,557 drams, the solutions to the challenges faced by the service will be implemented more effectively.
