35 People Missing After Floods Caused by Tropical Storm Fred
At least 35 people have gone missing in Haywood County, North Carolina, following flooding caused by Tropical Storm Fred. CNN reported on August 19, citing local police and rescue services.
According to police, the first reports of rising water levels came in on the afternoon of August 17, after which rescue teams were deployed to the affected areas. That is when evacuations began. A total of 54 people remaining in the disaster zone were rescued, while approximately 35 residents are unaccounted for. Rescue teams are actively searching for them.
The National Hurricane Center reported that Tropical Storm Fred is moving toward the northeast at a speed of 28 kilometers per hour, with wind gusts reaching 11 meters per second.
