Why is there a shortage of liquefied gas? Auroranews investigates the cause

Today, starting early in the morning, the news division of Auroranews received calls about a shortage of liquefied gas in the capital. In conversations with drivers, they indicated that this was not just about one gas station.

To understand the reasons behind the recurring issues in the liquefied gas sector, we contacted one of the gas importing companies. They informed us that the shortage of liquefied gas is linked to a fire that occurred several days ago at one of Gazprom's plants in Russia. According to our interlocutor, there have been transportation issues with gas for the past 10 days.

The company we spoke with imports gas directly from Russia and, as of now, their vehicles have been unable to return to Armenia for 10 days. Currently, only one vehicle carrying gas is being delivered each day, which is insufficient to meet the required volumes of liquefied gas.

Our source noted that it is difficult to predict when the issue will be resolved, but mentioned that gas importing companies working with Russia are facing the same problem during this time.

It’s worth mentioning that a few days ago, on August 5, it was reported that a fire broke out at Gazprom's plant located near Novy Urengoy in Russia, the consequences of which could significantly affect the entire technological chain of gas processing for the corporation. According to Russian sources, the emergency situation has already led to a reduction in the capabilities of the Gazprom Pererabotka company in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug; the fire has caused the Surgut factory, named after Chernomirdin, to lose its main source of raw materials and shift to reserve supplies.

As reported by RBK, following the fire, there have been noticeable price increases in the market for gas exported to European countries.
