United Kingdom to Accept 20,000 Afghan Refugees

The UK government has announced plans to accept 20,000 Afghan refugees in the coming years. According to Euronews, Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated, “We have a feeling of gratitude towards all those who have worked with us over the past 20 years to make Afghanistan a better place. Many of them, especially women, now urgently need our help.”

Johnson is set to present the plan to lawmakers today. The program is expected to allow the UK to accept 5,000 Afghans in the first year, prioritizing women, girls, and religious minorities.
