Stolen Car Found in Accident-Damaged Condition in Ijevan
On August 16, the operational management center of the Yerevan city police received a call from 61-year-old Hasmik H. from the Kanaker-Zeitun administrative district, reporting that her Opel Calibra had been stolen from her garage.
At the scene, Hasmik informed the police that a man who had introduced himself as Edo had taken the car under the pretense of a test drive and then fled the scene.
Detectives from the Kanaker-Zeitun police criminal investigation unit identified the man as 29-year-old Edik Baghdasaryan. While police were trying to locate the thief, on August 17, the Ijevan police received a report from the Ijevan Medical Center about an accident involving a car on Artsakh Street in Ijevan.
The traffic police team arriving at the hospital were informed that the victim had been brought in after an accident where the Opel Calibra had veered off the road and crashed into a support post.
It was later established at the hospital that the damaged car was the stolen Opel, and the injured individual was Edik Baghdasaryan, who attempted to deceive the police with a series of fabricated stories. However, officers E. Suslyan and K. Abazyan swiftly made it clear that his tale was over, leading to his eventual confession that he was indeed the car thief.
