Goris Deputy Mayor Menua Hovsepyan Arrested, Defense Attorney Confirms
Deputy Mayor of Goris, Menua Hovsepyan, is set to be detained. The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, granted the investigator's request to impose detention as a measure of restraint against Hovsepyan. This was confirmed in a conversation with Tert.am by his defense attorney Melikonyan.
“We will file an appeal, but if they justify that the computers are not working and everything is being handwritten, then the appeal will become pointless. Mnatsakan Martirosyan has sent Menua Hovsepyan to 'Armagh' penitentiary,” he said.
Regarding Goris Municipality employee Armine Chopchyan, Hovsepyan's attorney stated that he is aware she has not been detained.
Recall that on August 16, the RA Investigative Committee made decisions to involve Goris Municipality Acting Head Irina Yolyan and two municipal employees as defendants under Article 179, Part 3, Item 1 of the RA Criminal Code, while Deputy Mayor Menua Hovsepyan was implicated under Article 149.1, Part 2, Items 1 and 2, along with Article 179, Part 3, Item 1, and Article 179, Part 2, Item 1 for alleged criminal acts. They were arrested yesterday.
