We, like all other countries, are not in a hurry to recognize the Taliban's authority. Lavrov on the Taliban's rule
Russia is not in a hurry to recognize the Taliban movement's authority in Afghanistan. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday while responding to a question from TASS.
“We, like all other countries, are not in a hurry to recognize [the authority],” he noted, while also pointing out that Russia observes positive signals from the Taliban regarding Afghanistan's further development.
According to Lavrov, Russia hopes that the Taliban's dialogue with the leaders of Afghanistan's political forces will result in the formation of inclusive transitional government structures in the country.
The Taliban militants entered Kabul without resistance on August 15, establishing complete control over the Afghan capital within a few hours. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani announced that he had resigned to prevent bloodshed and left the country.
