Uzbekistan's Air Defense System Shoots Down Afghan Military Aircraft

Uzbekistan's air defense system has shot down an Afghan military aircraft for attempting to breach the state border. According to "Armenpress", this information was provided to "RIA Novosti" by Uzbekistan's Ministry of Defense.

"The Afghan military aircraft was shot down by Uzbekistan's air defense system during an attempt to violate the state border. We want to warn all parties that Uzbekistan's borders are inviolable," the statement from Uzbekistan's Defense Ministry reads.

The situation in Afghanistan has particularly escalated in recent weeks, with the Taliban ramping up attacks on major cities. On August 15, media reported that the insurgents controlled all border checkpoints. Later that day, the militants announced that they had entered Kabul and taken control of the presidential palace. Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani left the country, stating that he did so to prevent bloodshed.

On the night of August 16, the official spokesman for the "Taliban" movement, Mohammed Naeem, announced that the war in Afghanistan was over, and the form of governance in the country would be clarified in the near future.
