Hail Devastates 100% of Crops in Lusakunk and Dzovak
The hailstorm that struck Lusakunk and Dzovak on August 14 has destroyed 100% of the crops. In an interview with NEWS.am on August 16, Lusakunk Mayor Khachik Khachatryan reported that primarily the agricultural plants have been devastated.
“Wheat and barley are the most affected. What was left is no longer suitable for harvesting. Only the tops of the potatoes remain. Naturally, the orchards have also been damaged,” Khachatryan detailed.
He mentioned that the hail fell for about an hour in some areas: “In some places, it fell for an hour, and in others, for half an hour. What is in the fields is no longer usable. Those who managed to harvest before the hail have saved their crops.”
Dzovak Mayor Garik Hakobyan also shared with us that they are currently receiving applications from farmers. “According to the residents' applications, the damage amounts to approximately 130 hectares. The damage is quite significant. The damage to potatoes is 95 percent, and 5 percent to other crops,” the mayor reported.
