A 4.5 Magnitude Earthquake Followed by 70 Aftershocks
On August 16 at 5:44 AM, a 4.5 magnitude earthquake struck in the border area between Georgia and Armenia, 16 kilometers northeast of the village of Bavra. Following this, 70 aftershocks have been recorded. This indicates a release of pressure in the focus zone. The Javakheti fault zone is persistently active, and earthquakes are frequently registered. This information was reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia.
It is worth noting that previous earthquakes had also been recorded in the same area: on August 16 at 3:00 AM, on August 15, August 6 with magnitudes between 3-4, and on August 7 with magnitudes between 4-5.
