Elections Will Be Held in Kapan: Who is the Government's Candidate?
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that the local authorities aim to secure the mayoral and council positions in Kapan, Syunik region. Yesterday, Anna Grigoryan, an MP from Kapan, stated that the government has succeeded in having the local council resign, which indicates that snap elections are expected soon.
It turns out that the local authorities were dissatisfied with the statement made by the Kapan mayor, Gevorg Parsyan, who asserted that under no circumstances should votes be cast for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the upcoming parliamentary snap elections. Following the election results, it was decided to remove Parsyan from his position, and this process is currently underway. Out of 15, 8 council members have already resigned, making it clear that elections will take place.
Our sources indicate that the government already has its candidate for mayor: David Danielyan, an MP from the ruling Civil Contract party. First, they will secure control of the council, and then Danielyan will be elected as mayor.
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" tried to confirm this information with David Danielyan, who stated that no definitive decision has been made yet: "There are certain discussions, but nothing specific has been decided at this point. Of course, I will be fully involved in the election process," assured the young Danielyan.
