Tatoyan Visits Syunik Village: Residents Raise Issues About Their Land
Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan, accompanied by Tsovinar Harutyunyan, the head of the United Nations Population Fund's Armenian office, visited the Syunik village in the Kapan community, guided by Kapan community leader Gevorg Parsiayan.
The purpose of the visit was to listen to the residents who are facing security and social issues after the war, and to discuss job opportunities for youth and women, the development of their economic capacities, the promotion of social entrepreneurship, the involvement of the elderly, healthy lifestyles, and other matters.
Residents raised various issues, ranging from security to environmental concerns. Specifically, they noted that after the war, due to border processes, they were deprived of the ability to utilize their land, and the presence of Azerbaijani armed forces near their village and civil homes posed serious security challenges.
Tsovinar Harutyunyan presented the work of women's resource centers already successfully operating in the provinces of Goris, Meghri, and Kapan with the support of the UN Population Fund, an example that has spread to other regions of Armenia. With the help of these resource centers, women acquire professions, find jobs, and get involved in various programs.
Kapan community leader Gevorg Parsiayan shared the steps being taken by the community administration regarding the improvement of village infrastructure and programs aimed at providing social support to the people under his jurisdiction. The Defender and the head of the UN Population Fund's Armenian office discussed the residents' needs and existing opportunities for improvement, particularly emphasizing issues related to women's employment.
The importance of collaboration with the community leader and staff was highlighted. The results of the visit will be summarized, and depending on the nature of the issues, efforts will be made to address the raised concerns.
