Armen Gevorgyan to be Detained: Court Decision

The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan, presided over by Judge Anna Danibekyan, has decided to detain Armen Gevorgyan, a member of the 'Armenia' faction and a candidate for the chairmanship of the Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration. This was reported by the 'Armenia' alliance.

“It is no secret that in the last three years, this government has reached new heights of legal lawlessness. Among them is the continued detention of our two fellow deputies in the National Assembly. Article 94 of the Constitution guarantees the representative mandate of a deputy. This stipulates an obligation for the members of the National Assembly based on their status. The same judge on August 3 deemed the absence of a deputy participating in the sessions of the National Assembly respectful, but under the same legal conditions relating to the ongoing sessions formed by the Constitution, the judge has adopted an entirely opposite approach. With such behavior, the judge has effectively decided to interfere with the normal functioning of the National Assembly and the representative mandate of the deputy, which has no correlation with any legal process.

We invite the attention of the Supreme Judicial Council to the behavior of the judge of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan. We find it necessary to emphasize that Armen Gevorgyan has consistently maintained respect for the court, and all circumstances have been duly communicated to the court in advance,” they reported from the alliance.
