We believe that incidents occurring on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border pose a threat to the security of Armenia, a CSTO member - Zas

The Secretary General of the CSTO believes that the possibilities for a political resolution to the Armenia-Azerbaijan border conflict are not exhausted, and it is necessary to continue work in that direction within the framework of Armenia-Azerbaijan-Russia.

According to Armenpress, Stanislav Zas, the Secretary General of the CSTO, stated this during a visit to the Ararat military unit while responding to a journalist's question regarding the proposals developed by the Collective Security Treaty Organization for resolving the border situation and why the organization does not provide a clear and straightforward assessment of the incidents occurring on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.

According to the Secretary General, the situation prevailing on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border is constantly within the CSTO's field of vision. 'We are conducting organized monitoring, including with the assistance of Armenian state structures. Of course, we believe that the incidents occurring on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan, which you are referring to, pose a threat to the security of Armenia as a member of the CSTO in the Caucasus region. If we talk about the paths to resolving the issue, we believe that the possibilities for a political resolution of this situation are not exhausted, and in fact, that would be the best option for everyone,' said the CSTO Secretary General.

In this context, Stanislav Zas emphasized the importance of the working format outlined between Armenia and Azerbaijan with the mediation of Russia. That is why, the Secretary General said, all the CSTO's actions stem from such an understanding of the situation. 'We are seriously concerned about the recent increase in clashes on the border and the observed intensity. This does not help in initiating the aforementioned works. Furthermore, it complicates the implementation of the cornerstone agreements reached among the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia regarding the cessation of hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and finding paths for establishing peace in this region. We hope that all parties will understand this and will take steps to resolve disagreements through political means,' added the CSTO Secretary General.
