Unconditional Support for the Armed Forces Does Not Imply Political Expectations from the Army, Kocharyan Says

Andranik Kocharyan, the candidate for the Chair of the Defense and Security Issues Committee of the National Assembly, presented the main tasks of the committee in case he is elected. Kocharyan emphasized the importance of keeping the military away from politics.

“Both the National Assembly, the government, and the committee have a huge task to keep the army away from politics at any cost. We must unconditionally support the Armed Forces, but this does not imply having any political expectations from the army,” he stated.

Kocharyan also highlighted the effective fight against corruption within the armed forces as one of the key priorities of the Defense and Security Issues Committee, addressing the issue of restoring the country's security system.

“At this moment, everyone’s obligation should be the complete restoration of the security system in our country, the strengthening of the army, which should encompass not only the acquisition of the latest weaponry but also a change in the value system of those in military uniform, a high intellect, a sense of responsibility, state-oriented thinking, as well as a healthy perception of victory and defeat,” he added.
