The Secretary General of the CSTO, Stanislav Zas, met with Armenian Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan. According to the CSTO's press office, the meeting took place during Zas's visit to Armenia.

The parties discussed the supply of modern weapons for the organization's collective forces and the overall agenda of Armenia's presidency in the CSTO in 2022. Issues regarding the upcoming session of the Collective Security Council were also discussed, including amendments to the agreement on the CSTO's peacekeeping activities (which regulates the involvement of CSTO forces in UN missions).

Moreover, the discussions touched on the joint rapid response forces exercises planned for October-November in Tajikistan. At the end of the meeting, Karapetyan invited Zas to visit one of the Armenian military units on August 10.

It is noteworthy that during a meeting with the Head of the Armenian Security Council, Hayk Petrosyan, Stanislav Zas discussed the “Thunder 2021” exercises scheduled for late September, which will involve anti-drug units from CSTO member states in Armenia.

Zas has also met with the Acting Foreign Minister of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, and is set to meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on August 10. Armenia will assume the presidency of the CSTO on September 16 of this year. Zas arrived in Armenia today, August 9.
