"Very Soon": Lukashenko Reveals When He Will Step Down as President

Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko has responded to the question of who and when will be the next president of Belarus after him, as reported by BELTA.

"Whoever the Belarusian people choose will be the president, that is really how it is," said the Belarusian leader.

"There’s no need to speculate about when Lukashenko will leave and so on. Very soon," he added.

It is worth noting that the largest group in the European Parliament, the conservative European People's Party (EPP), issued a statement on Monday indicating that the EU must prepare for the victory of a democratic revolution in Belarus, also expressing the view that "the Belarusian regime will fall."

To that end, they propose to show readiness to "punish the regime" through sanctions and support the "ongoing struggle of the Belarusian people."

"The regime will fall, and the victory of the people is inevitable; it’s just a matter of time. The EU must be prepared for the victory of the democratic revolution in Belarus," stated the group's leader Manfred Weber in a declaration issued on the first anniversary of the last presidential elections in Belarus.
