Good News: Birth Rate in Armenia Increased Significantly in the First Half of This Year

The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports: 'The number of births in Armenia has increased in the first six months of this year. According to official data obtained by 'Zhoghovurd', the number of births in our republic from January to June in 2019 was 16,021, in 2020 it was 15,798, whereas in the same period this year it has risen to 17,211.

In addition to this, the number of stillbirths has also increased, rising from 199 to 236 over the course of a year. Another noteworthy development is that the rate of divorces in Armenia has started to rise significantly. The official source informed 'Zhoghovurd' that during the first half of this year, the number of divorces was 2,002, which is an increase of 508 compared to the previous year.

On the other hand, marriages have also increased: during the first six months of 2020, there were 5,258 marriages, whereas this year the figure has risen to 8,130. According to several experts, young people today prefer the option of civil marriage.'
