Deliberately Struck Police Officer's Car and Then Drove Towards Stationed Police Officers: Investigative Committee
The Investigative Committee's Yerevan City Investigation Department is conducting an inquiry to clarify all circumstances surrounding the apparent use of violence against staff of the Police of the Republic of Armenia and intentional damage to another's property.
On July 29, 2021, around 11:00 PM, police officers approached a parked 'Mercedes-Benz' vehicle operated by a 27-year-old resident of Yerevan, located near a gas station on Hrachya Kochar Street, while executing operational information.
The officers identified themselves and requested the young man to step out of the vehicle. However, he refused to comply with the lawful demand of the police and intentionally struck a service 'BMW' police vehicle with his vehicle. Following this, he proceeded to drive towards the police officers stationed on the road, forcing them to flee the traffic lane to avoid being hit.
As a result of the incident, the Investigative Committee's Yerevan City Investigation Department initiated a criminal case under Article 316, Part 1, and Article 185, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. A decision has been made to engage the young man as a defendant, and he is currently wanted by the authorities.
A petition has been submitted to the court to select pre-trial detention as a measure against him, which has been granted. The preliminary investigation continues, with measures being undertaken to ensure an objective and comprehensive examination, as well as efforts to locate the 27-year-old and present him to the prosecuting body.
