25 Delta and 5 British Variants Confirmed in Armenia from 30 Samples: Avanesyan

The number of positive COVID-19 cases is slowly on the rise. This was announced by Armenia's Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan during a government meeting.

“With the upcoming start of the new school year, we must do everything possible, adhering to the rules, to mitigate the spread of the pandemic,” the minister emphasized.

Anahit Avanesyan also presented vaccination statistics. As of now, a total of 190,036 vaccinations have been administered, including 6,188 from yesterday alone. According to the minister, there has been significant progress in vaccination rates.

“Last week, we sequenced the circulating strains and found that from the 30 samples, there were 25 Delta variants and 5 British variants. We will continue this sequencing work on a regular basis. This strain is characterized by a high level of transmissibility, which has also led to an increase in morbidity,” said Anahit Avanesyan.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan inquired about the proportion of vaccinated foreigners. In response, Anahit Avanesyan noted that they have been collecting separate statistics since July 15: “From July 15 to August 4, a total of 58,108 individuals were vaccinated, of which 56,010 were Armenian citizens, while 2,096 were foreign nationals. Foreigners are also getting vaccinated, but it constitutes a very small percentage of the total vaccination statistics,” the minister added.
