Member of Parliament Assaults Police Officer in Azerbaijan Restaurant

A member of the Azerbaijani parliament has allegedly assaulted a police officer at the "Old Yard" restaurant in the city of Khachmaz, owned by a relative of the parliamentarian. This was reported by Sputnik Azerbaijan.

The altercation began after law enforcement officials requested that the establishment be closed, as it had already passed midnight, and due to pandemic-related measures, dining establishments in the country are required to close by that time.

It is noted that the Azerbaijani Parliament will hold an extraordinary session on August 3 due to the disturbance caused by MP Eldaniz Salimov at the restaurant. Salimov is already facing criminal charges for "Abuse of Official Powers."
