Demarcation Will Take Place, but It Is a Long Process: NSS Deputy Director

Demarcation work will take place, but it is a long process. This was stated by the Deputy Director of the National Security Service, Stepan Melkonyan, during a conversation with journalists ahead of an extraordinary meeting.

“Ultimately, demarcation will occur, but this is a lengthy process. There are many issues to resolve before reaching that point and even starting that process,” he emphasized.

When asked how long citizens should wait in uncertainty while gunfire continues, the NSS Deputy Director noted that this is not related to demarcation. “This has nothing to do with demarcation; it is about the behavior of the neighbor, and more precise information can be provided by the military leadership, as they are the ones directly managing this process concerning border security in the eastern part,” he said.

Regarding whether citizens can travel to the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions, Melkonyan indicated that it depends on the direction. “Of course, they can go to Syunik and Gegharkunik; the question is which part you are headed to. If it is regarding the contact line, it can certainly be problematic and should be coordinated with the military leadership,” he added.

When asked if the NSS head has had communication with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Melkonyan replied: “You can ask the head about that.”
