Video: Man Arrested for Stealing License Plates and Extorting Money from Car Owners
The officers of the Kotayk Division of the Police have conducted operational investigative activities and acquired information that a 27-year-old man living in Yerevan was traveling to the city of Abovyan in a friend's Nissan vehicle to steal license plates from cars, then placing Telegram numbers on the windshields of those vehicles before extorting money from the owners for the return of their plates.
The Kotayk police first located and detained the owner of the Nissan vehicle, then continued their search efforts to locate the 27-year-old man. After days of work, they achieved results on July 23. The young man was brought to the Kotayk Division and presented to the investigation department of Abovyan, where he was arrested.
According to the information known to the investigation, on the night of June 10, he had stolen license plates from parked Mercedes, Toyota Corolla, and Toyota Camry cars in various parts of Abovyan, valued at 1,500,000, 150,000, and 400,000 drams respectively, and later extorted a total of 250,000 drams from the owners.
The young man has been charged and has been taken into custody. The circumstances of the incidents are being clarified during the preliminary investigation.
