Captured Soldiers Should Be Returned After Military Operations End: Human Rights Watch

The Director of the Europe and Central Asia Division of Human Rights Watch, Giorgi Gogiashvili, has commented on Twitter regarding the illegal sentence given to Armenian prisoners of war by the Baku Serious Crimes Court.

Gogiashvili noted that the criminal prosecution of Armenian prisoners by Azerbaijan on charges of illegal border crossing violates the Third Geneva Convention. “Captured soldiers should be granted prisoner of war status and should be returned after the completion of military operations,” wrote Gogiashvili.

Earlier, it was reported that the Baku Serious Crimes Court had sentenced another 13 Armenian servicemen to six years in prison on fabricated charges.
