NSS Responds to Reports about Police Reinforced Service Participation
On July 23, 2021, the Helsinki Civil Assembly Vanadzor Office released a statement titled, "The actions of the RA Police and NSS under the 'reinforced service' do not meet the aim of ensuring public order and security in a democratic state and are disproportionate." The statement indicated that on the evening of July 21, 2021, the RA Police, with the participation of employees from the National Security Service (NSS), conducted what is referred to as a 'reinforced service', inspecting vehicles traveling both in Yerevan and to the regions.
The National Security Service of Armenia has announced that its officers had no involvement in the aforementioned actions and demands that in the future, there should be a cessation of the practice of publishing and disseminating unverified information. The Helsinki Civil Assembly Vanadzor Office is urged to promptly refute the information regarding the NSS's alleged participation in this operation, which does not correspond to reality.
