US Congress Members Pass Bill Prohibiting Military Aid to Azerbaijan
US House of Representatives members have just voted and passed a bill that blocks military assistance to Azerbaijan. This was reported by ANCA.
The bill was initiated by US Congressman Frank Pallone.
It is noteworthy that US President Joe Biden had previously authorized military assistance to Azerbaijan. He informed Congress that the administration is extending the suspension of the 907th amendment of the "Freedom Support Act." This amendment was adopted in 1992 and restricts military assistance to Azerbaijan at the state level from the US. However, in 2001, US administrations temporarily suspended the act's operation, primarily aiming to gain Azerbaijan's support as a transit area for the transportation of goods to Afghanistan.
