No Revanchist Trends Should Be Allowed in Armenia: Aliyev Talks About His Discussion with Putin

During his visit to Russia, there was a broad exchange of thoughts primarily related to bilateral issues and, of course, the post-conflict situation.

This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in an interview with Azerbaijani television.

“We are strategic partners also in real life, as there are no disagreements around long-term strategic cooperation. We have strong friendly ties between us. Personally, I have very close relations with Mr. Putin. We are political figures who trust each other; that is very important.

During the visit, there was a discussion of the bilateral agenda. This time we discussed more trade, economic, transportation, and humanitarian issues. Regarding transportation matters, we discussed both the previously agreed issues related to the 'North-South' transport corridor, its prospects, as well as the situation created after the war, including the Zangezur corridor and post-conflict period issues. There are no disagreements in our approach.

We, Russia and Azerbaijan, believe that the war is over, and the conflict has ended. No revanchist trends should be allowed in Armenia, and there should be peace in the region from now on. The risks of war should be minimized and eliminated. There are no disagreements between us on this issue; our opinions are the same.

Regarding the Zangezur corridor, I informed Mr. Putin that according to our information, Armenia is once again not being sincere on this matter. During the press conference with Mr. Charles Michel, I said that all roads should be opened simultaneously; there should be no selective approach, that is, discrimination. But we see that Armenia is once again trying to play some games here,” Aliyev stated.
