Lavrov: 'We hope no one will think to test the CSTO's stability and start aggressive actions against any of its members.'

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov hopes that no one will think of testing the stability of the CSTO Treaty in Afghanistan. According to RIA Novosti, Lavrov stated, 'There will be consultations in Pakistan now. We will strive for everything I mentioned so that there is peace there (in Afghanistan). Our position with the neighbors in Central Asia is that all obligations within the CSTO framework should remain in force, and of course, we hope that no one will think to test the stability of the Collective Security Treaty and try to start aggressive actions against any of its members.'

Moreover, he noted that the absence of a political process in Afghanistan creates additional risks. 'According to some assessments, the Taliban control 70-80 percent of the territory and reach Afghanistan's northern borders, where in addition to them, using this vacuum in the political processes, ISIS terrorists and remnants of Al-Qaeda are actively establishing themselves,' Lavrov added.
