From Director of NSS to Lawyer: ArmDaily
As is known, practicing law is a favorable path for former officials, especially those who have worked in the law enforcement system. Perhaps this is the reason why employees of power structures begin to engage in law after leaving the state system, with former prosecutors and judges becoming defense attorneys.
ArmDaily.am has learned that the former director of the National Security Service (NSS), Colonel Mikayel Hambartsumyan, aims to become a lawyer as well. He is currently studying at the Law School to obtain a law license upon completion of his education and to begin practicing.
We attempted to gather information about Mr. Hambartsumyan's studies, as well as those of other former officials, from the director of the Law School, Simon Babayan; however, he politely declined our request, stating, "Information regarding students is personal data that can only be disclosed with the consent of the student. A student at the Law School can be any capable individual who holds a bachelor's degree in legal education or has a qualifying diploma, and has successfully passed the school's entrance exams, provided they have not been convicted of a crime committed intentionally. Students at the Law School come from various sectors of the legal system."
Nevertheless, the disclosure of such "highly confidential" information is merely a matter of months, especially in cases where the new activities of former officials become public.
