Azerbaijan Captures Martuni Resident

The Office of the Human Rights Defender has received reports concerning the abduction of a resident from the Matchkalashen community in the Martuni region. This was stated by Artsakh's Human Rights Defender Gegham Stepanyan on his Facebook page.

‘As a result of fact-gathering, it was found that the individual is a 1989-born resident of the Matchkalashen community, who was engaged in livestock farming and found himself in an area under the control of Azerbaijani armed forces while searching for lost livestock. Community authorities have informed Russian peacekeepers about the incident. Negotiations are currently underway with their mediation for the person's return,’ he wrote.

The Human Rights Defender's office continues to investigate the report and will provide updates on the results.
