Lusine Avetyan, the Head of Karahunj, Released from Custody
Lusine Avetyan, the administrative head of the village of Karahunj, who was accused of distributing electoral bribes and was under detention, has been released. This information was confirmed to NEWS.am by the public relations department of the Republic of Armenia's Prosecutor General's Office.
“As a result of discussing the defense's motion, the prosecutor decided to change the measure of restraint to bail. The property attached to the motion has been used as bail. It has been taken into account that she provided self-incriminating testimony and assisted the investigation and the disclosure of the crime, as well as the fact that, at this stage of the investigation, the risk of illegal influence on the participants of the trial obstructing the investigation has decreased, and bail is sufficient to guarantee proper behavior of the defendant while remaining at liberty,” stated the Prosecutor's Office.
It is reminded that Avetyan has been charged with obstructing the implementation of electoral rights, the work of electoral commissions or the powers of individuals participating in the election, and violating the secrecy of voting. According to Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan's lawyer, Avetyan has testified against the Goris mayor. The lawyer stated that Arushanyan was detained based on that testimony.
