Young Woman Infected With Coronavirus Dies After Cesarean Section in Tbilisi

A young woman infected with coronavirus has died after undergoing a cesarean section at the First University Hospital in Tbilisi. This was reported by Aliq Media. The incident occurred on July 17.

According to the director of the clinic, Levan Ratiani, the patient was admitted at 36 weeks of pregnancy with respiratory issues and several other complications related to COVID-19. Due to the severity of her condition, doctors decided to perform a cesarean section.

Post-surgery, the woman developed sepsis and was pronounced dead. The newborn was saved and is reported to be stable, remaining in the intensive care unit but does not require artificial respiration. It is still unknown whether the newborn is infected with COVID-19, as doctors are awaiting the test results.
