Two Individuals Arrested for Illegal Drug Trafficking

As a result of investigative and procedural actions conducted in the criminal case being examined by the Investigative Committee's Sisian investigative division in the Syunik region, several circumstances surrounding the illegal drug trafficking incident have been clarified.

The Investigative Committee reports that on July 13, 2021, employees of the Syunik regional department of the police apprehended two residents of Yerevan on suspicion of illegal possession and use of drugs at a stationary checkpoint located along the Yerevan-Meghri highway. During a personal search, a significant amount of 0.22 grams of methamphetamine was discovered on one of the suspects, while a search conducted in the Opel Astra vehicle used by the other suspect revealed a total of 65 grams of a greenish substance packed in four packages, as well as a total of 102 grams of a substance resembling drugs, which were seized.

The two individuals were arrested on suspicion of illegal drug trafficking. A toxicological examination has been ordered. Searches of their residences have been carried out. The preliminary investigation is ongoing. Necessary measures are being taken to determine the source of the drugs, the identity of the person distributing them, the presence of possible accomplices, as well as other circumstances relevant to the investigation.
