The Special Investigation Service Calls on Defenders of Goris Mayor to Remain within the Bounds of Decorum

The defense side of A. Arushanyan, accused in a criminal case, has published its own views supporting their stance, without drawing conclusions from the statement issued yesterday by the Special Investigation Service of Armenia, continuing a manipulative behavior. In response, we are obliged to publish the decision made on July 10, 2021, regarding the assignment of the investigation team, as well as the record of notifying the accused and his defenders about this decision on July 15, 2021.

Moreover, the defense has, for the second time, inexplicably insisted that the aforementioned documents have not been provided to them nor the court. It is at least strange how the package of these documents could be absent from the defenders, while copies have been presented to the parties and the court during the proceedings. However, regardless of this circumstance, as already mentioned, the defenders were informed about the decision to form the investigative team on July 15, 2021, which is evidenced by the record composed about it bearing their signatures.

Thus, it is more than evident that the defenders were well aware that the head of the investigative team is Kh. Mejlumyan, who made decisions regarding the involvement of A. Arushanyan as an accused and to apply detention as a preventive measure against him.

In light of the above, we call on the defenders to choose a defense strategy that remains within the bounds of decorum and professional ethics and to refrain from making unfounded statements that cast doubt on the legal activities of the prosecuting body.
