Adventures of the 'Night Bat' in Ararat Province: Traffic Police Conduct 'Smetana' Operation

On July 10, members of the second platoon of the second traffic police brigade noticed a Toyota Altezza vehicle performing a "drift" while speeding on the Yerevan-Yeraskh highway during their service. The 'Smetana' operation was initiated on-site under the directive of Deputy Commander of the Traffic Police's second brigade, Hayk Davtyan.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, that same night around 4:15 AM, the driver of the vehicle, confident in his impunity, continued to drive recklessly despite seeing the traffic police officers operating on the 16 km section of the Yerevan-Yeraskh highway, which was clearly indicated by the flashing lights of police vehicles.

The traffic police intercepted the 'night bat,' who not only lacked a valid driver's license at that moment but also drove an uninsured vehicle. At that moment, the driver took out his phone, attempting to position himself as a contestant from the game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" and called someone to get himself released by the traffic police; however, his phone call went unanswered.

Under the orders of Traffic Police platoon commander Grigor Poghosyan, Senior Inspector Suren Sahakyan had the vehicle towed to the special parking area of the Masis police department.

According to G. Shamshyan, the offending driver is 31-year-old Vahan Zadoryan, a resident of Yerevan.
