Video Released of Attack on Haitian President

A video has been released showing the attack on Haitian President Jovenel Moïse. According to the Miami Herald, the assailants who killed the head of state posed as agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

“This is a DEA operation. No one resisted. This is a special operation by the DEA,” one of the attackers can be heard shouting.

Sources from the newspaper indicate that the criminals have no affiliation with that agency.

It is recalled that the president of Haiti was fatally wounded during an attack on his residence late Wednesday night. The country's authorities believe that the assassination was carried out by an armed group composed of foreigners.

The Dominican Republic authorities are investigating the possibility of the assailants infiltrating their territory. They suspect that the attack on the president was executed by a seven-member group from South America, consisting of four Colombians and three Venezuelans.

Preliminary information suggests that they were acting on behalf of “powerful individuals in Haiti involved in drug trafficking and human trafficking.” According to this theory, an accomplice among the attackers could have been a high-ranking police officer who intentionally weakened the security of Jovenel Moïse’s residence.

A state of emergency has been declared in Haiti, which will last for 15 days.
