New Details on the Murder in Yeghvard
On July 2, 2021, around 01:00, the police station in Nairi received a call from a woman reporting a murder at a location known as "Monuments" in Yeghvard. An investigative operational team promptly arrived at the scene, where they discovered the body of a 61-year-old man from Yeghvard inside an Opel Astra car, who had been strangled.
Preliminary information suggests that a dispute and struggle occurred inside the car, during which the alleged perpetrator strangled the man with a towel. Based on this, the Nairi investigative division of the Kotayk regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee initiated criminal proceedings under the first part of Article 104 of the RA Criminal Code.
Following immediate investigative and procedural actions, as well as operational and search activities, several circumstances of the incident were clarified, including the motive and the identity of the person suspected of committing the crime, a 31-year-old woman residing in Kapan. During the examination of the crime scene, a towel and female hair were discovered.
The 31-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder and was interrogated, providing a self-incriminating testimony. A forensic examination of the body has been appointed to clarify significant circumstances essential to the criminal case. The investigation is ongoing, and measures are being taken to conduct an objective and comprehensive inquiry, verifying the circumstances indicated in the testimonies.
